Doris Jean Kober, 87, of Frederick, Maryland, passed from this life and was delivered to our Lord on Monday, October 7, 2024. Born on June 19, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Frisby and Margaret Evelyn Mathis.
Doris was raised by her Aunt Lily and Uncle Herman Brown in Brevard, North Carolina until moving to Rockville, Maryland at the age of 16. She graduated from Richard Montgomery High School in 1955 and married John Kober in 1956.
In her professional life, Doris held positions at BNA, Westat, Microlog, and even the CIA! In addition to these jobs, she was also a caregiver to many over the years, and her home was always open. But her true passion was in service to the Lord. Her faith and devotion helped make her an amazing youth leader at St. Rose of Lima. She also volunteered at St. John Regional Catholic School and St. Timothy Catholic Church. Most recently, she volunteered at the Frederick Senior Center. Doris truly lived a life of service, and she made an impact on every person with whom she came in contact.
Doris was an avid reader, puzzler, crafter, and Cool Ranch Dorito eater. She was known in some circles as the “Queen of Scrabble.” Her happy place was spending time with her large family and friends. Family meant the world to her, and related or not, Doris was called “Mom” by many.
Preceded in death by her husband John B. Kober and their son Joseph Lee, she is survived by her two brothers James E. Riddle (Judy) and John Mathis (Lorie), and six children: John, Kevin (Jeri), Margaret, Mark (Sarah), Mary (Steve), and Maria (Dale). She is also survived by 17 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren.
A funeral mass will take place at 11:00 AM on Friday, October 25, 2024 at St. Rose of Lima, 11701 Clopper Rd. Gaithersburg, Maryland 20878. There will be a reception to follow in the church hall.
