Doris Mae Lare

April 10, 1933 — October 2, 2022

Thurmont

Doris Mae Miller Lare, age 89, died October 2, 2022, at Kline Hospice House in Mt. Airy, Maryland.

Doris was born near New Market, Frederick Co., Maryland, on April 10, 1933, to the late Harry Dennis and Vada Mae Wilhide Miller.  She attended New Market Elementary School and was a member of the New Market 4-H Club.  She graduated in 1951 from Frederick High School and went to work at Frederick Trading Company.  She then worked for Moore Business Forms in Thurmont, retiring from there after 39 years and then returning to work part-time.  She also worked part-time at Maple Run Golf Course, saying she did it “for the fun of it” and continuing right up to the time of her brief illness.

Doris was a devoted Orioles baseball fan and an avid athlete, playing softball in her younger years and bowling. She was proud of scoring the highest ladies’ set at Walkersville Lanes, winning the Ladies High Game Chevron, and winning the Ladies 400 High Set Chevron.  She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Creagerstown, Thurmont Senior Citizens, Moore Retiree Group, and the Walkersville Bowling Center’s Wednesday Afternoon Bowling League.  She liked playing BINGO, and in her later years, she took up playing UNO with her friends and neighbors at Albert Courts.  Doris loved to travel and took many trips across the country, numerous cruises, and an extensive tour of Europe.

Doris did not have any children of her own, but she loved her nieces and nephews who called her Aunt Dot and adored her in return.  She was particularly close to Bonnie Baust of Thurmont, MD; Vicki Boyd of Rohrersville, MD; Chris Chaney of Harpers Ferry, WV; Mary Lippart of Schellsburg, PA; Paul Miller of Dover, PA; Steve Miller of Summerfield, NC; Susan Miller of Jamestown, NC; and Sandy Stone of Oak Ridge, NC.  She was dearly loved by her family and friends who will never forget her delightful laugh or her vibrant spirit.  Doris is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.  She was predeceased  by her parents, her seven siblings: Leon “Abe” Miller, Bernice Dixon Pakela, Martha Danner Eisenhower, Ruby Jane Burall, Harold Dennis Miller, Paul Edward Miller, and Mary Lou Chaney Huffer; her niece, Patsy Vetrovec; her nephews: Mark Burall, Mike Danner, Kevin Danner, and Wayne Dixon; her former husband, Glenn Lare; and her special friend, Frank Baker.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Monday, October 10, 2022 at Stauffer Funeral Homes, 1621 Opossumtown Pike in Frederick, MD. 21702.

A celebration of Doris's life  will follow at 11:00 am on Monday, October 10, 2022.  Rev. Tim May will officiate.  Interment will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery in  Frederick, MD.
