Doris Mae Ryan

Doris Mae Ryan, 74, of Thurmont, Maryland, passed away on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at HeartFields at Frederick.

Born on September 24, 1951, in Bangor, Maine, she was the daughter of the late Orson Huntley, Jr. and Glenna Hickey Huntley.

Doris dedicated her professional career as a civilian public affairs officer with the U.S. Navy Bureau of Medicine and Surgery (BUMED) in Bethesda, Maryland. She took pride in her work supporting Navy Medicine and its mission.

Following her retirement, Doris cherished time spent with her daughter, Megan, and her grandchildren, Scarlette and Devin, especially during family vacations to the Outer Banks. She especially enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s various sports events. She was a gifted artist who enjoyed drawing and painting, and she also had a passion for quilting. In her later years, she found joy in spending time with friends at the Thurmont Senior Center and taking walks in the nearby park.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Megan Ryan-Riffle and Kevin Riffle, her grandchildren, Scarlette and Devin Riffle, and brother Orson Huntley.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Devin Ryan, and her sister Mary Jane Huntley.

The family will receive friends on Friday, April 10, 2026, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Stauffer Funeral Home, 104 E. Main Street, Thurmont, Maryland 21788. Interment will be held at a later date in Chicago, Illinois, beside her son, Devin Ryan.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Ronald McDonald House.
