Dorothea Aleshire

d. July 27, 2021

Dorothea Josephine Aleshire, of Mt. Airy, passed away on July 27, 2021, after a long and courageous battle with lung cancer.

Dorothea (Dottijo) was born in White River Junction, Vermont to Joseph and Dorothea Kulikowski. After Dottijo graduated from Gaithersburg High School, she went into banking where she managed branches for several major banks before going into a family business with her husband and son.  Dottijo spent more recent years providing care for her beloved father.

In 1968, she met William at Dickies Place, a local restaurant where she worked. William married Dottijo who he describes as his wife, lover, strength, and best friend in 1969. They welcomed a son, Will into the world later that year.

Dottijo loved being outdoors in warm weather-whether walking on the beach, reading a book or working in the garden.  She also had a passion for animals and enjoyed the company of her rescue animals. Dottijo was also a wonderful artist who loved painting and creating art.

Dottijo was predeceased by her mother. In addition to her husband and father, she is survived by her son Will and his wife Shannon, and her favorite grandchild, Katie. Dottijo adored watching Katie play ice hockey and said that it reminded her of when she would ice skate as a child.  Katie loved spending time with her Grandma and especially enjoyed it when Grandma picked her up from school and painted her nails when she was younger. Dottijo also leaves behind her two rambunctious dogs, Sammy and Denny.

There will be no services or visitation.  If you would like to pay tribute to Dottijo ’s life, please consider a donation to Frederick County Humane Society www.fchs.org/donate.shtml .
