Dorothy V. Barnard

Dorothy V. Barnard, 78, of Frederick, Maryland, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus, on Friday, February 6, 2026, at Citizens Care and Rehabilitation Center in Frederick, MD. She was the beloved wife of Carlton R. Barnard for 57 years. Born on March 26, 1947, in Bethesda, MD, she was the daughter of the late Hans Otto and Margaret Virginia (Butt) Stach (Dixon M. Butt, stepfather). Raised by her grandparents Mary Lee and Chester M. Hill. Dorothy owned and operated a day care for several years. She continued her working career at Frederick Co. Public Schools prior to her retirement, where she was well loved and appreciated. Always a woman who liked to keep busy, she later continued her working career as a custodian at Frederick Memorial Hospital. She is considered one of the best babysitters ever by all those who were under her care and was everyone’s nanny. Dorothy was a huge fan of Stephen King, Harry Potter, and the John Wick franchise, as well as various different horror movies and crime drama shows like Criminal Minds . She also enjoyed thrift shopping and movie nights with her daughter and granddaughter. Dorothy was a beach-lover and enjoyed vacations with family in Myrtle Beach, SC. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Carolyn Lynn Shanholtz (and her boyfriend, Larry Miller), and Robert Scott Barnard; Granddaughter, Kayla Virginia Shanholtz; as well as several cousins. Dorothy was dearly loved by extended friends and family as well as by her fur-baby grandchildren: Raven, Mia, Jessie, Jackson, Riley, Jinx, Jaybuck, and Ruby. Dorothy and her beautiful smile and kind soul will be dearly missed by her family and loved ones. She was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Louise Stull. The family will receive friends from 10-11 am on Thursday, February 12, 2026, at Stauffer Funeral Homes, P.A. (Fred), at 1621 Opossumtown Pike in Frederick, MD, where a celebration of Dorothy's life journey will take place at 11 am. Rev. Dana Werts will officiate. Interment services will be at Parklawn Memorial Park and Menorah Gardens in Rockville, MD at 2:30 pm. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Foundation.
