Douglas Huth Connolly, 92, of Frederick, MD, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 8, 2025, at Frederick Health Hospital.
Born on February 24, 1933, in Paterson, NJ, he was the son of the late Joseph Patrick Connolly and Dorothy Ernestine (Huth) Connolly.
Doug led a life dedicated to service, family, and professional excellence. His early career began at the Cumberland Times (1949-1952), followed by positions at Western Electric Co. (1956-1957) and the Soldiers and Airmen's Home (1958-1974). He graduated from the University of Maryland in 1973 and later served as an Employee Relations Specialist with the federal government (1974-1990). In 1979, Doug initiated and developed the first ADAMHA employee handbook, and in 1990, he received the Administrator's Special Citation from the Department of Health & Human Services-one of the agency's highest honors.
A 1951 graduate of La Salle High School in Cumberland, MD, Doug also proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1952 to 1955. His assignments took him across the country and abroad, including a year and a half stationed in Okinawa, Japan. He received multiple commendations, including the Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal.
Doug is survived by the love of his life, Kitty Monahan of Frostburg, MD; his brother, Col. Joseph Connolly (Marlene) of California; and his six sons and their families: Chris Connolly of Hagerstown; Steve Connolly (Denise) of Hagerstown; Patrick Connolly (Valerie) of Texas; Matthew Connolly (Lisa) of Virginia; Terry Connolly (Kelli) of New Market; and John Connolly (Jill) of Colorado. He was a proud grandfather to Shawn, Chris Jr., Katie, Brittany, Andrew, Heather, Andrew, Marshall, Briar, Oakley, Townsend, Eric, and Katherine, and great-grandfather to 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Ronald E. Connolly and Dennis T. Connolly.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 14, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. until the start of a prayer service at 6:45 p.m. at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, MD 21702.
Interment with military honors will take place on Friday, August 15, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at St. Mary of the Mountain Cemetery, 300 Oldtown Rd. SE, Cumberland, MD 21502.
