Douglas Lee Gossard, 89, of Damascus, Maryland, passed from this life on Thursday, December 4, 2025, at Frederick Health Hospital in Frederick, MD.
Born on November 18, 1936, in Hillsboro, VA, he was the son of the late Jesse Wilber Gossard and the late Llewella Maude Young Gossard Palmer.
Douglas was a loving and devoted husband to his late wife Sharon for 64 years. He managed grocery stores for 29 years, worked at Scan Furniture and Friedman and Fuller CPA’s before he retired. He spent 6 years in the Army Reserves at Fort Knox, Camp Pickett and Fort Meade. He loved working in his backyard, building things, taking long family road trips exploring the country, watching western shows and spending time with family. He was an amazing storyteller. He loved telling stories about his childhood and how he and Sharon met. He was a history buff and loved telling stories of the past. He was always there for anyone whenever they needed anything.
He is survived by his daughter Darlene Diehl and husband Wayne, daughter Donna Buck, daughter-in-law Jill Gossard, son Daniel Gossard and wife Amy, daughter Debra Reid-Gossard and wife Rebecca, grandchildren Joseph Diehl and wife Christy, Ashley Gentry and husband Schuyler, Kevin Buck and wife Victoria Woltz, Noah Gossard, Andrew Gossard and wife Courtney, Adam Gossard, Nicholas Gossard, Emily Gossard, Tyler Gossard, Brittany Grove and husband Ben, and great-grandchildren Jack Diehl, Serina Buck, Madison Buck, Gavin Gossard, Addy Gossard, Emma Gossard, Landon Gossard, and Clayton Gossard.
In addition to his parents and siblings, he is preceded in death by his wife Sharon Lee Gossard, son Douglas Lee Gossard II, granddaughter Katelyn Michele Lee Buck and son-in-law Michael Louis Buck.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm on Monday, December 15, 2025, at Stauffer Funeral Homes, P.A. (Fred), 1621 Opossumtown Pike in Frederick, MD.
A graveside service will be held at 3:00 pm on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Frederick, MD.
