Douglas B. Russo

October 17, 1938 — September 5, 2025

Fairfield

Douglas Bruce Russo, 86, of Mont Alto, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on September 5, 2025.

He was born in Chicago, Illinois on October 17, 1938, to the late Vincent and Julia Russo. Doug was also preceded in death by his two brothers, Vincent and Andrew Russo.

Doug is survived by his devoted wife of 67 years, Sandra Leahy Russo. Together they built a family filled with love and laughter. He was a proud father to Robert (KitMarie) Russo, Andrea Campbell, Patrick (Kelly) Russo, and Christopher (Theresa) Russo. He was cherished as “Pappy” to twelve grandchildren-Sarah, Jon, Michael, Matthew, Katie, Jordan, Nathan, Stephanie, Jordyn, Rachel, Dalton, and Rebekkah-and as “Pappy Russo” to eighteen great-grandchildren.

Family was the heart of Doug’s life. He had a gift for making everyone feel welcome-he never met a stranger. Known for his sharp wit and playful humor, he delighted in teasing his grandchildren and daughters-in-law. One of his favorite jokes was to tell his grandchildren that he was “eleventy-three.” His storytelling, often through song, was a treasured part of going to bed at sleepovers.

Doug proudly served his country in the United States Navy. Following his service, he worked with dedication for 32 years at the phone company before retiring. In both his professional and personal life, Doug was known for his loyalty, kindness, and unwavering smile.

His presence brought joy to all who knew him, and his legacy of love, laughter, and family traditions will live on through those he leaves behind.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, September 10, from 6-8 p.m. at Stauffer Funeral Home in Thurmont, Maryland. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

The family will forever miss Doug’s big smile, his sense of humor, and the way he lit up every room he entered.
