Dr. Nicola Tauraso

Dr. Nicola Michael Tauraso, 81 of Frederick MD died on Sunday August 7, 2016.

Dr. Tauraso was born on November 5, 1934 in Peabody, Massachusetts to Angelina and Michael Tauraso.  He has a surviving brother, Joseph Tauraso. Dr. Tauraso's sister Phyllis predeceased him.

Dr. Tauraso is survived by his seven children:  Michele, Andrea (and her husband Todd), Michael (and his wife, Lori), Aria, Siena, Cosimo, and Lorenzo.   Dr. Tauraso is also survived by his grandchildren:  Luke, Joe, Vinny and Chrissy.

Dr. Tauraso graduated from Boston College in 1956 with honors and then continued his education at Harvard Medical School.

Being the charismatic Renaissance man that he was, Dr. Tauraso has had different careers. He worked at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD working with some of the world's eminent scientists creating the Yellow Fever vaccine. He then went on to become a pediatrician, opening his private practice. Later he opened the GoTaCh Center, a holistic health practice helping many adults and children.  He was also co-owner of the former Tauraso's restaurant in Frederick.

During the 1970's Dr. Tauraso was very active in the Frederick County 4H organization, providing space, money, and advocacy for 4H youngsters. Around that same time he also was instrumental in providing medical services to migrant workers and their families.

Dr. Tauraso loved fine wines, good food and classical music. In his later years he constructed a greenhouse and grew vegetables and herbs.  He did a fair amount of travel and lived in the country of Panama for a number of years.

The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike Frederick, MD on Sunday, August 14th from 6-8pm, and again on Monday, August 15th from 2-3pm, followed by a memorial service that will begin at 3:00pm with Rev. Tim May officiating. All are welcome to pay their respects.
