Listen to Obituary

Earle Bishop Meek age 86 passed away the morning of July 20th.

She resided in an attached apartment with her son Kenny and daughter-in-law Terry in Frederick, MD.

Earle was born on August 15th, 1939, in Charlottesville, VA to Elma Grant and Hazel Katherine Ellington Bishop. She was preceded in death by her husband Ted Meek who passed away in 2014.

She was a graduate of McCallum High School in Austin, TX and earned her bachelor’s degree in education from Hood College in Frederick. She taught for many years at Maryland School for the Deaf and retired from there in 1983.

She is survived by her son Kenny Meek (Terry), daughter Sandy Olson (Nils). Grandchildren/Step grandchildren Rachel Davidson (Josh), Issac Fouche (Jordan), Wayde Barnhart (Donna), Katie Dotson(Corey Williams), Lauren Olson, Kristin Mosher (Scott) and Kelli Tressler. She has 11 grandchildren/step grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Roberta Bishop Eichman (Ned) and Patricia Bishop Kingsbury along with many nieces and nephews. She will also be missed by her longtime friend Lynne Price.

Earle enjoyed sewing (yes, we wore many handmade clothes growing up) and while at that time we didn’t really like it because it wasn't a name brand, as adults we realized the loving care and well-made clothing that we actually had the privilege of wearing. She enjoyed making handmade cards and those cards were ones that people kept for a long time and cherished because of the time, love, and personal messages that they held. She always had a card handy with her to hand out to a server or a cashier which would always be a surprise and make someone’s day special. She loved her animals and fed the birds, squirrels, and chipmunks. We all knew every dog that she had in her lifetime: Ladybug, Puppy Dog, Hushenback, Tinker, Red, Randy, Scruffy and Lucky. We know she will be greeted by them warmly because she spoiled them all sometimes to all her family’s chagrin!

The family would like to honor and recognize the loving care that she received from the staff of Citizens Nursing Home during her many visits for rehab over the years. We are also so very grateful and thankful for the support of Frederick Health Hospice care during her last few weeks here with us, as well as the staff at Amada Senior Care. Her son Kenny and wife Terry, who were caring for her at home, would not have made it through those few weeks without their round the clock support system. They helped to make her comfortable in her final weeks here with us.

In lieu of flowers, donations are appreciated to Frederick Health Hospice, The Frederick Humane Society, or the Frederick Rescue Mission.

The family will receive friends from 12-1 pm on Friday, August 21, 2026, at Stauffer Funeral Homes, P.A. (Fred), 1621 Opossumtown Pike in Frederick, MD where a celebration of Earle's life journey will take place at 1pm.

Interment will be private.
