Edda Marie (Runze) Brenneman

Edda Marie (Runze) Brenneman , 94, of Boonsboro, Maryland, passed from this life on Saturday, October 4, 2025 at Homewood at Williamsport in Williamsport, Maryland. She was the beloved wife of the late Herbert Elwood Breeneman for 46 years.

Born on June 11, 1931, in Omaha, Nebraska, she was the daughter of the late Rev. Curt Hans Runze and Marie Johanna (Fischer) Runze.

Edda was a 1949 graduate of Granstville high school. She was raised Lutheran, her father was a Lutheran minister who also married her to Herbert April 25, 1952. She worked as a communications operator for Bell Telephone in Philadelphia, PA and Washington, D.C. Edda enjoyed planting flowers and having an aquarium for her fish. She also loved bird watching, going to the beach and anything outdoors. Edda was very involved in her community. She volunteered for the Washington Co. Hospital Auxiliary, was a member of the Boonsboro American Legion, meals on wheels and Friends of Ravenwood and served in her church. Edda was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister and will be greatly missed. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and really enjoyed family reunions. Edda could strike up a conversation anywhere she went and often friend a stranger, especially at church.

She is survived by her three children, Ann M. Brenneman of Boonsboro, Tom E. Brenneman and wife Denise of Lenanan, IL, and David C. Brenneman and wife Christy of Gerrardstown, WV; grandchildren, Jen, Tom, Jr., Ed, Derek and Shawn; great-grandchildren, Luke, Levi, Adeline and Melody; sister, Louise M. McIntyre of Absecon, NJ.

A celebration of Edda's life journey will take place at 11 am on Thursday, October 9, 2025 at St. John's Lutheran Church (of Hagerstown), 141 South Potomac Street in Hagerstown, Maryland. Pastor Hoda Zavandro will officiate. Interment will be at Boonsboro Cemetery in Boonsboro, Maryland.
