Edward Hahn Bowers of Mt. Pleasant died on Ash Wednesday, February 18, 2026 at the age of 87. He was predeceased by the love of his life and wife of 53 years, Charlotte Shafer Bowers.
Eddie was born February 15, 1939, son of Ralph and Mary Evelyn McDevitt Bowers. A lifelong dairy farmer, he was born and died in the same house on his beloved Bow Royal Farm. Eddie and Charlotte married in April 1961 and were dedicated partners in dairy farming and raising four children.
Eddie served in many leadership positions over his lifetime. He was a 4-H leader, passing on his love of dairy cows to the next generation. He served as PTA president while his children attended Liberty Elementary, a school he attended grades 1-9, later graduating from Frederick HS in 1957. He enjoyed reminiscing with classmates at many reunions.
Eddie served as a board member for MD Farm Bureau, Southern States Co-op,and SIre Power Co-op. He was a lifelong member of Mt Pleasant UMC, Walkersville VFD, and a charter member of Mt. Pleasant Ruritan.
Eddie loved sports and was a season ticket holder for the Baltimore Colts, and later the Baltimore Ravens. Charlotte joined him in this and influenced him to enjoy theater. They gifted their family with dinner theater tickets for decades. Eddie spent his last years watching Orioles baseball and Ravens football on TV.
He was predeceased by his parents and siblings Shirley Eader, Ruthann Bowers, Barbara Bowers, and Mark Bowers. He is survived by his eldest brother, Harold (Buzz) and children, Teresa Mongold (Doug), Michael Bowers (Laura Haselbarth), Andrea Lewis (Ron), Christine Bowers, and grandchildren, Christiana Martin and Andrew Lewis.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 PM on Sunday, March 1, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, MD 21702, where the funeral service will take place at 11:00 AM on Monday, March 2. Interment will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Frederick Health Hospice or Mt Pleasant Ruritan scholarship fund.
