Elaine C. Scrivener

Elaine C. Scrivener, 83, of Smithsburg, Maryland, passed from this life on Tuesday August 27, 2025 at her home. Born on February 6, 1942 in Washington D.C., she was the daughter of William Grote and Frieda (Keidel) Grote. Elaine was a wife of 64 years to Thomas F. Scrivener.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Inge Grote. In addition to her husband, Thomas, she is survived by her four children, Virginia Scrivener, William Scrivener, John Scrivener, and Christina Scrivener Kilduff, and their spouses; as well as eight grandchildren.

Elaine was a graduate of Hagerstown Junior College, a bookkeeper for the family business, and a homemaker. She was an active member in her church, and a volunteer for several charities including the MS Society and the Olive Tree medical mission. She enjoyed spending time in her garden, making pottery and jewelry, and loved traveling and spending time with her grandchildren.

A funeral service and celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, September 2, 2025 at Trinity Lutheran Church at 64 South Main Street in Boonsboro, MD. A light meal will be held afterward at the church.
