Elaine K. Smith

Elaine (Haines) Smith, 86, passed away on Wednesday, November 26th, 2025.

Born on July 11, 1939, in Rohrersville, MD, she was the daughter of the late Cecil Sigler and Myrtle Anna Lee Mullendore Haines. She was the youngest of nine children.

Elaine was preceded in death by her husband, William (Bill) Smith; and her son, Michael. She is survived by her grandson, John Michael, whom she raised as her own son, his wife, Lorie; and great-grandson, Draven.

Elaine was a 1957 Boonsboro High School graduate. She was employed at the Shoe Factory, and later Dunkin Donuts and 7 Eleven. For many years she spoke fondly of her coworkers as she retold stories of working at each location.

She had an incredible memory and was often the only one who could answer questions on family history. She wouldn’t let you forget a loved one’s favorite food or silly story and was quick to remind you of details you’d missed.

Elaine was a member of the Brownsville Church of the Brethren. She dearly loved her God, her country, and her family.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, December 3, 2025 at the Brownsville Church of the Brethren in Knoxville, MD. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the church. Burial will be held at Brownsville Heights Cemetery. Please join the family for a meal, following burial, in the church's fellowship hall.
