Ernestine Margarete Rodgers

Ernestine “Erna” Rodgers, nee Hunger, passed on January 28, 2023, at Glade Valley Center in Walkersville, MD.  Erna is survived by her husband of 62 years, Robert “Bob” S. Rodgers; daughters Susie of Frederick, MD, and Sandra and her husband Dave Roll of Boyds, MD, and son Robert Rodgers and Jacki Weddle of Knoxville, MD; granddaughter Lauren with wife Britt Burr, grandson Jared Rodgers and granddaughter Haiden Rodgers; brother Wolfgang Hunger and wife Gerda of Ingolstadt, Germany; cousin Christl Porer of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany; and many nieces and nephews both in the U.S.A. and Germany.
Erna is predeceased by her parents Rudolf and Margarete Hunger.
Erna was born in Munich, Bavaria, Germany on February 8, 1939. She grew up in Garmisch-Partenkirchen facing hardships in post-World War II Germany. It was there that she met the love of her life, Bob, a young U.S. Army soldier. After a short courtship, they were married in Oberammergau, Germany on April 24, 1961.  Together, they welcomed three children into their lives while primarily being stationed in Germany until 1983. When Bob retired as a Master Sergeant with 27 years’ service in 1985, they settled in Frederick.
Erna was a kind daughter, taking care of her mother throughout her life. She was a loving and devoted wife, and making a warm, comfortable home for her family was her great passion. She reared her children with compassion and taught them to be caring individuals, just like her. Her heart was overfilled with love and joy for her grandchildren. Spending time with them was her greatest pleasure. At this moment she is running with Tanner, the beloved family dog that passed in 2020. Simply stated, she was the best daughter, wife, mother, and Oma - and we are all happier and wiser because of her.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 25, 2023 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick.
