Eugene Richard {Gene} Mackenzie

June 26, 1933 — January 1, 2007

Mr. Eugene Richard Gene Mackenzie, 73 of Brunswick, Maryland, born June 26, 1933 in Frederick, Maryland, beloved son of the late Marie E. Mackenzie-Spurrier and beloved husband of Betty L. Mackenzie, his wife of 54 years, was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, January 1, 2007 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He passed peacefully in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loving family and care taker Jean.

Surviving in addition to his wife Betty are, son, Garry R. Mackenzie of Hagerstown, Maryland, daughter Sylvia J. Puddy and husband John of Brunswick, Maryland, Granddaughter Amanda L. Nicola and Fiance Chad Carter of Brunswick, Maryland and Granddaughter Tenaya M. Ramey of Frederick, Maryland.

He was preceded in death by son, Gerald S. Mackenzie, Grand parents George H. and Sadie A Mackenzie and Sister-in-law and husband Eva and Tom Pratt.

He was dearly loved by many other family members which included Brother-in-law Edward Smith and Wife Katherine; Niece Josephine Lamb and Husband James Pooch; Niece Jeanne Unglebower and late husband Charles Snook, Nephew David Pratt and wife Judy and Nephew Thornton Huck Pratt.

Gene was a graduate of Frederick High School, Class of 1951, employed by Allegheny Power System for over 39 years, retiring in July of 1995 and worked many years along side of Dutch Miller of Dutch's Shell in Brunswick, Maryland. He served in the National Guard of Maryland for six years until his honorable discharge
in 1957. He was a member of the Brunswick Moose Lodge 1582 and an avid Redskins fan.

He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather as well as a friend to many. Quality time with his family was a very important part of his life. In addition to the devotion he had for his family, he also cherished his time spent with his family pets.

Visitation: The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1100 North Maple Ave., Brunswick on Sunday, January 7, 2007 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM.

Services: Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Monday, January 8, 2007 at 2:00 PM with Pastor Gary Hubble officiating.

Interment will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens.
