Eva Frances Blankenship Eichelberger died Friday, September 12 at Meritus Hospital at the age of 83.
Eva was born on June 2, 1942, in Brooklyn, NY. At the age of three, she moved to New Bedford, MA with her mother to be near family, including her much beloved grandmother, Eva Flora Cusson Oullette. By high school her mother and stepfather moved their family to Newport, RI where she attended her much loved school, Rogers High. Eva made many friendships at Rogers High which she maintained for life. She graduated in 1961.
Upon another move with her family, Eva found herself living in Virginia and working in Washington D.C.. She met her first husband Larry through a co-worker. He remained the love of her life.
Eva had an impressive career at the State Department but gave it up to raise her son Shane before adding Shannon to the family.
Eva delighted in her grandson, Aidan. Her favorite times were the adventures she and her best friend and daughter, Shannon, would take Aidan on, crossing Maryland and Pennsylvania. Many of these trips grew to be yearly traditions.
Eva will be remembered fondly by her large list of recipients for her beautiful, heartfelt and constant flow of letters and cards. Writing letters was her hobby, and she wrote to family and friends old and new without expectation of return.
Eva is survived by her children Shane (Susan) and Shannon, and her grandson Aidan.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband Larry Blankenship, her second husband Clark Eichelberger, and her mother, Yvonne Oullette Skillings.
Visitation will be offered beginning at 10AM on Monday, September 22, at St. Ann Catholic Church, 1525 Oak Hill Avenue, Hagerstown, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11AM. A private interment will take place at a later date.
