Everett Leroy Barton, Jr. “Leroy”

Everett Leroy Barton, Jr., known to family and friends as “Leroy,” passed away on Sunday, September 14, 2025, at the age of 65. A lifelong resident of Montgomery and Frederick County, Maryland, he was born in Gaithersburg on March 24, 1960, to the late Everett Leroy Barton, Sr. and Ann Barton.
As a young man, Leroy excelled in athletics, he played football and had an esteemed wrestling record at Gaithersburg High School before continuing his wrestling at Montgomery College in Rockville where he earned All-American honors. He had a close and enduring bond with his mother and often credited his late stepfather, James Hawkins, with instilling in him the value of hard work.
In 1982, Leroy began what would become a distinguished 40-year career with Ruppert Landscape. Known for his craftsmanship, dedication, and mentorship, he earned numerous company and industry awards and the deep respect of his colleagues. Leroy enjoyed teaching others and took pride in helping them grow, leaving behind countless friends and colleagues who will miss him dearly.
Above all, Leroy was a proud father. His two sons, Benjamin and Colby, brought him immense joy, and he loved them deeply.
Leroy was preceded in death by his brothers Edward Barton and James Hawkins, Jr. He is survived by his sons, Benjamin and Colby; his siblings, Joseph Hawkins, Laura Barton McIntosh, and Lewis Barton; and many extended family members, friends, and colleagues.
A celebration of Leroy’s life will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2025, from 3:00–5:00 p.m. at Ruppert Landscape’s headquarters in Laytonsville, Maryland.
