Frances Ray

Mrs. Frances S. Ray, 84, of Mt. Airy , died on Wednesday February 2, 2011 , at her home. She was the wife of the late Russell W. Ray who died in 2004.

Born on August 6, 1926 in North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin A. and Clyde Mae Wright Sherman.

She was a 1944 graduate of the Women’s College, Greensboro, NC where she completed her AA degree within one year. She was retired from Aspen Publishing were she was the former executive administrative assistant to the vice president. She was also a former secretary to the Dean at N. C. State College.

She was a very active in Mt. Olive U. M. Church, Mt. Airy and other previous churches. She was also supportive of the Mt. Airy Lions Club, Garden Club, PTA and the band and athletic boosters.

Surviving are four children; Dorothy Ray Davis Clark of Ocean Pines, Virginia Ray Mason of Mt. Airy , Teresa Ray Sipes and husband Kenneth J. of Mt. Airy and Russell T. Ray and wife Karen S. of Purcellville, VA. Nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Sister in law Gertrude Sherman of Sanford, NC. She was preceded in death by her three brothers.

The family will receive friends from 11:00am until time of Memorial services at 12:00pm on Saturday February 5, 2011, at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 East Ridgeville, Blvd. Mt. Airy. Reverend Art Monroe will officiate. Interment will be private.
