Franklin Delano Ott, 87, passed from this world into eternal life on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at his home in Jefferson, MD with his daughter, and sons by his side. Born September 27, 1936, in Harpers Ferry, WV to Elmer Addison Ott and Blanche Elizabeth Fritts Ott.
During Frank’s younger years he was a member of the Jefferson County 4-H club. A graduate of Harpers Ferry High School Class of 1955, he played football on the school’s undefeated Harpers Ferry High School Team of 1955. He also played outfield for the Harpers Ferry High School Baseball Team. Upon graduation he went to work for American Airlines at the Baltimore-Washington Airport preparing planes for passengers. In 1963 he began milking and crop farming, helping his father-in-law on the family farm and later taking over the operation. He was a member of Maryland Farm Bureau and was honored for 20 years of providing milk to Capitol Milk. He was also a member of the Jefferson Volunteer Fire Company and Jefferson United Church of Christ.
An avid sports fan, he watched baseball and football games. He attended his sons’ games as farm work allowed. He was an assistant baseball coach of the Jets for which his sons both played. In those days Jefferson had a youth baseball league playing on the ball field at Valley Elementary. He was an avid WV University fan watching their football and basketball teams when the games were televised.
He is survived by his daughter, Brenda (Richard) Blumenauer, sons David (Debbie) Ott and Sam (Katherine) Ott, grandchildren Lauren (Dustin) Burch, Tom (Emily) Blumenauer, Andrew (Carly) Ott, Mandy (Brad) Blumenauer, Sarah L’Ecuyer, great-grandchildren Lily, Jackson, Harper Blumenauer, Reagan, Blake Burch, and Maddie & Kate L’Ecuyer, his brother John E. “Bud” Ott, his sisters Eleanor “Polly” Glesner, Elizabeth “Pat” (Orville) Thompson, Mary Katherine “Kay” Payne and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife of 66 years, Doris Mae Gordon Ott, who recently passed away on April 8, 2024, his grandson, Bradley Blumenauer, his brothers, Donald P. Ott, Perry “Gene” Ott, and Robert E. Ott.
The family will receive friends from 10-11 am on Monday, May 20, 2024, at Jefferson United Church of Christ, 3837 Jefferson Pike in Jefferson, MD. The funeral service will begin at 11am. Rev. Dr. Darrel Justh and Rev. Dr. Amy Dows will officiate. Interment will be at Jefferson Reformed Cemetery in Jefferson, MD.
