Fred A. Wisner

Fred A. Wisner, passed from this life on Wednesday, August 13, 2025. Born on March 30, 1942, in Frederick, Maryland, he was the son of the late Harry Lewis Wisner, Jr. and Gladys Day (Mullinix) Wisner.

Fred was a native of Walkersville, where he grew up on the farm - now known as the wedding venue, Walker’s Overlook. He graduated from Walkersville High School in 1960 and worked in plumbing and HVAC until he was drafted at age 25 into military service.

Fred served as Sergeant in the US Army, and was stationed in Vietnam where his life was forever changed by the horrors of war. When he was honorably discharged from the Army in 1969, Fred returned to the construction industry. He worked as an engineer for Tyler Mechanical in Ijamsville for 13 years. On 9/11, he was working on a project at The World Bank, which is very close to the Pentagon, and his experience triggered flashbacks of his time in Vietnam. In 2013, Fred received the Craftsman Hall of Fame Award for his dedication to the industry and quality of craftsmanship for his more than 30 years of service.

After retirement, Fred continued to stay active. For many years he has competed in the National Veteran Golden Age Games, where he won many medals as well as enjoyed the company of other veterans. On many days, you could find Fred riding his bicycle all over Frederick or taking in a Frederick Keys baseball game. He was a good neighbor and happily volunteered his time to help others. He also had a passion for traveling and was always planning his next big trip either within the United States or to foreign destinations such as China, Hong Kong, Russia, Lithuania, Switzerland, Germany and England.

Fred is survived by brothers Kenneth Wisner, Wayne Wisner Sr., and Glenn Wisner; sisters Ella Lenhart and Fern Mercer; sisters-in-law Joan Wisner, Janet Wisner, and Nancy Wisner; nieces and nephews Karen Green (Paul), Terry Brynes (Jerry), Timothy Lenhart (Mary), Gwen Whitmore (Ronald), Jeff Wisner (Teresa), Aaron Wisner, Crystal Wiles (Scott), Wayne Wisner, Jr. (Christine), and Tony Wisner; and many great-nieces and nephews. He was predeceased in death by siblings Garnett Wisner, Meredith Wisner, Marshall Wisner; sister-in-law Shirley Wisner; and brothers-in-law Donald Lenhart and Ted Mercer; nephew Ronald Wisner and nieces Teresa Brickhouse and Tina Lenhart.

Family and friends can gather at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick MD 21702 on Thursday August 21, 2025 from 10 am until the start of the funeral service at 11 am. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, 9501 Catoctin Mountain Hwy, Frederick. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Fred’s memory to Frederick Church of the Brethren, 201 Fairview Avenue, Frederick MD 21701.
