Gary Lynn Babington, 82, of Boonsboro, MD, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 19, 2024, at Doey’s House, surrounded by his loving family, after battling the effects of Parkinson’s disease. Born September 6, 1941, in Hagerstown, MD, he was the son of the late Frank B. Babington and the late Nellie C. (Kephart) Babington.
Gary grew up with seven siblings on a farm in Boonsboro and graduated from Boonsboro High School in 1959. He started working for the Washington County Roads Department and then became a bricklayer for many years before transitioning to work at Eastalco Aluminum Company in Frederick, MD. Upon his retirement, Gary worked part-time at the Crisplant in Frederick, MD.
He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion and loved spending time with family and friends. Gary enjoyed family vacations, supporting his grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s activities, and playing the slots. Spending time outdoors was Gary’s favorite pastime. He liked to hunt, and he took pride in maintaining the house, the yard and automobiles.
Gary is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Patricia E. (Flook) Babington; his two daughters — Sheryl L. Bowers and Diane M. Crampton (Will), both of Boonsboro; five grandchildren — Desiree Mills (Jeffrey), Kodi Bowers, Zachary, Bailey and Delaney Crampton; four great-grandchildren — Haven and Andon Bowers, Easton Twigg and Reagan Mills; one brother — Harold Babington; as well as beloved cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friends. He is preceded in death by three sisters: Gladys Charles, Evelyn Gaver and Janet Stouffer; and three brothers: Leo, Kenneth and Richard Babington.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 27, 2024 at Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro, MD. A celebration of life service will follow immediately at 11:00 a.m. and burial services will take place at the Boonsboro Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Washington County (dedicated to Doey’s House), 1710 Underpass Way Suite 300, Hagerstown, MD 21740 or to the Michael J.
