Eugene F. "Gene" Rinehart passed away from this life on Sunday, July 26, 2026 at the age of 93.

He was born on April 18, 1933, in Frederick to Russell and Florence (Boyer) Rinehart.

He was the loving husband of Shirley Ann Rinehart for 56 years who predeceased him in 2020. In addition to his parents, and wife, he was predeceased by a brother, Russell “Dink” Rinehart, Jr. 

Gene attended Frederick High School, playing basketball and was on the track and field team, receiving state awards in the pole vault (3rd) and the broad jump (2nd), and the 448 yd. relay team (1st), which held the Maryland State record for several years. After graduating Frederick High School in 1951, Gene joined the Navy and proudly served during the Korean War, serving as a radarman on the USS Rushmore from August 1952-August 1956. After leaving the Navy, Gene worked for over 39 years for Potomac Edison as a lineman. He continued to serve in the Color Guard for the Amvets and Korean War Veteran’s Chapter 142 for several years until his health limited those activities. He devoted a life of service to his wife Shirley, family, the community and his fellow veterans.

Gene is survived by his daughters, Dawn Fleming (Clint), and Cheryl Wallick (Doug); stepsons, Ricky Loun and Robert Loun Jr. (Linda); seven grandchildren, Kristen Fisher (Robert), Jeremiah Main (Brittany), Ashleigh Stephens (Tyler), Cheyann Wallick and Emma Wallick, Gary Wallick, Amanda Wolfe (Richard); great-grandchildren, Alden Fisher, Charlotte Fisher, Lincoln Main, Colson Main, Kadence Main, Wyatt Coblentz, McKinna Hildalgo, and Dominic Hildalgo; brother, Wayne Rinehart (Lynn); sister-in-law, Sarah Crigger; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, August 3, 2026 at Stauffer Funeral Homes, 1621 Opossumtown Pike in Frederick.

A celebration of Eugene's life journey will take place at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at Stauffer Funeral Homes, 1621 Opossumtown Pike in Frederick. Pastor Michael Cooper will officiate. Final resting place ceremonies, with military honors, will be held at Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Frederick.
