George Jay Martin

George Jay Martin, 71, of Frederick, MD, passed from this life on Monday, February 12, 2024 at Kline Hospice House in Mount Airy, MD. 

Born on August 14, 1952, in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of the late Donald Caples Martin and Catherine (Beard) Martin. 

George was a 1971 graduate of Westminster High School. He worked in the telecommunications field for the Federal Government for 39 years, and part-time for A&P grocery store for 34 years; earning retirements from both. 

George loved summer, especially going to the beach, swimming in his pool, and soaking up the sun. He took vacations annually to Ocean City, MD from the time he was a young boy. He enjoyed reading, doing puzzles, and taking trips to Hanover for hotdogs. George was a devoted father and Pap Pap.

He was a member of the Frederick Elks Club #684; attended Frederick Alliance Church; and was a proud band Dad, helping the pit crew for TJ High Marching Band for 11 consecutive years while his daughters were in band and color guard. 

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Christine (Zepp) Martin; their three daughters, Jennifer Altman and husband, Joshua, Laura Gonciarz and husband, Andrew, and Emily Martin; four grandchildren, Sydney Gonciarz, Bryan Altman, Chance Gonciarz, and Michael Altman. He is also survived by his siblings, Donald (Butch) Martin of Miami, FL, Judith Coyle and Samuel Martin of Westminster, MD and Catherine Hogan of St. Pete Beach, FL. 

George was predeceased by his parents and a brother; John Martin. 

The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, February 18, 2024 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike in Frederick, MD.

A celebration of George's life journey will take place at 2 p.m. on Monday, February 19, 2024, from the funeral home chapel with Pastor Rick Shell officiating. 

Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens.
