George Solon Peet Jr., went home to be with his Lord and Savior on June 17, 2025 at age 84. Born on February 24, 1941 in Darby, PA, he moved to Washington, D.C. and Silver Spring, MD.
He graduated from Montgomery Blair High School in 1960. He served in the U.S. Army Reserve for six years. He attended banking, mortgage and appraisal institutes. He started his career working for Citizens Building and Loan in Silver Spring, MD. In 1964, he married his high school sweetheart and best friend, Joy.
They moved to Denver, Colorado, where he served as Vice President of Peoples Bank and Trust. Upon returning to Frederick, MD, he worked for the Thurmont Bank and Perpetual Bank. He started and ran his own appraisal company until he retired. He was a sixty plus year life member of the Silver Spring, MD Volunteer Fire Department, where he served as Vice President. He was a member of the NRA, the American Legion post 62, and he had recently joined the Elks Lodge of Frederick. He enjoyed many years of Civil War reenactments with Company C and Company A, 2nd MD infantry Army of Northern Virginia CSA, and served as a Board of Director for the Frederick County Civil War Round Table, from 1996 to 2002.
He did living history events, battles and parades in Gettysburg, Rosehill Manor and surrounding areas with his grandson Nathan. He also participated in cowboy reenactments.
He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-one years, Joy Seebold Peet, who passed on 05/06/2025. His brother's John and Gregory Peet, and his Parents George and Gladys Peet. Surviving are his sister, Betsy Peet Simering of MD, Son George Solon Peet 3rd, of AZ, daughter Sophia Poling and husband Robert of Middletown, and a daughter Sonia Peet of New Market. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Nicholas Yancey, of Cameron, NC, Nathan Yancey and wife Hannah of Conway, SC, Natalie Yancey of Middletown, Abby Poling of NC, Landon Poling of Middletown, one great-granddaughter, Haven Yancey of Conway, SC. George also is survived by many lifelong friends from the fire department and reenactments.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm on Monday, June 23, 2025 at Middletown United Methodist Church, 7108 Fern Circle, Middletown, MD.
A celebration of George's life journey will take place at 2:00 pm on Monday, June 23, 2025, at Middletown United Methodist Church. Interment will be at Christ Reformed Church Cemetery in Middletown, MD following services.
