George P. Woodfield, Jr.

George P Woodfield Jr., 92, of Mount Airy, Maryland, passed from this life on Friday, July 25, 2025 at Frederick Health Hospital. He was the husband of Doris Lewis Woodfield who died in 2018.

Born on August 5, 1932, in Woodfield, MD, he was the son of the late George P. and Edith Odessa Burdette Woodfield.

George was a graduate of Damascus High School and enjoyed the many picnics and reunions through the years.

He served in the Korean War for almost four years.

George worked for many years for C&P Telephone Company rising from a lineman to an engineer.

He was a long time member of the Mt. Airy Kiwanis club and helped with countless community projects and fundraisers. George was also involved in the American Legion in town and a supporter of the Mt. Airy Fire Department.

After his retirement at age 57, he and Doris traveled extensively with travel groups and on their own. Cruises, beaches, musical theatre, ranches, hall of fames, just always on the road or planning their next adventure.

Surviving are his daughter, Marti L. King and husband Robert of Walkersville; three grandchildren: Sara Wink and husband Michael, Britt Baker and husband Zach, and Ashley King. George is also survived by five great grandchildren: Gaby Wink, Alex Wink, Reese Baker, Quinn Baker, and Luke Baker.

He was preceded in death by his son Mark Woodfield.

The family will receive friends from 5-8 PM on Thursday, July 31, 2025 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 East Ridgeville in Mt. Airy.

A private interment will be at Pine Grove Cemetery, Mount Airy at a later date.
