Gerald A. Dean

Gerald "Jerry" Allen Deal , 89, of Smithsburg, Maryland, passed from this life on Saturday, March 21, 2026 at Doey's House in Hagerstown, Maryland. He was the husband of the late Virginia "Jenny" Belle (Bowers) Deal.

Born on September 29, 1936, in Waynesboro, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Clyde W.and Isabelle H. (Sprankle) Deal.

Jerry was a 1955 graduate of Smithsburg High school and attended Hagerstown Junior College. Jerry taught Electrical Engineering at Frostburg State. He and his wife attended the Community Mennonite Church in Boonsboro. Prior to retirement he worked as a Statewide Supervisor for MD Environmental Services.

Jerry is survived by three sons, Gerald A. Deal, Jr. and wife Teresa, Gregory L. Deal and wife Debbie, and Curtis W. Deal and wife Donna; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren; sister, Barbara Gardenour and brothers, Timothy Deal and Dennis Deal.

He was preceded in death by his sisters, Doris Kershner, Sandra Deal and brother, David Deal.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm on Monday, March 30, 2026 at Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike in Boonsboro, Maryland.

A funeral service will take place at 10 am on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home. Pastor Paul Clemmer and Pastor Guy Nesbitt will officiate.

Interment will be private.
