Geraldine Rose Lichtinger died peacefully in the company of her adoring family on August 30 in New Market, MD.
Geri was born on November 30, 1925 in Willoughby, OH to Eldon Lewis Randall and Agnes Marion (Garfield) Randall Holmes. She was raised by her mother near Little Hope, PA, in a variety of living situations, including on a family farm. Late during the depression her mother married Ralph P. Holmes, of Erie, PA.
Geri graduated from Academy HS in Erie in 1944. She joined the US Cadet Nurse Corps in September of 1944 and completed her Registered Nurse education and certification from Hamot Hospital School of Nursing in September, 1947. In Erie, she met Ronald R. Lichtinger and they married there in 1948. She and Ron raised five children while he worked for the FBI in Pittsburgh, Indianapolis, Baltimore and Frederick; The family eventually settled in Frederick, MD.
Geri worked in several roles while raising her children, including in retail at J.C. Penney, and as a geriatrics nurse in several locations. She eventually retired from the Frederick County Commission on Aging. She was a dedicated and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great - grandmother. She will always be remembered by her loved ones for her patience, caring nature, radiant smile, and will be revered by her family for her selfless generosity with her time and effort.
Geri was predeceased by her husband, Ron, her brother Richard Randall and her son-in-law, Christopher Walters. She leaves behind a daughter, Susan Walters, of New Market , MD, and four sons; Carl Lichtinger, of Beans Cove, PA; Ronald Lichtinger, Jr. (Theresa) of Ft. Loudon, PA; Kenneth Lichtinger of Thurmont, MD; and James Lichtinger, of Thurmont, MD. In addition, she is survived by seven grandchildren: Ronald Lichtinger, III (Katrina) of Point of Rocks, MD; Paul Lichtinger (Shannon) of Baltimore, MD; Andrew Walters (Phoung) of Austin, TX; Katherine Mills (Samuel) of New Market, MD; Mary Walters (Michael Houck) of Burkettsville, MD; and Thomas Walters, of Baltimore, MD and seven great grandchildren.
She was a member of Hamot Hospital Alumni Association, and a past member of Homewood Retired Nurses Association. She was a member of St Katherine Drexel Catholic Church parish until she was housebound.
Visitation will be at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Oppossumtown Pike, Frederick, MD on Sunday September 7 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Services will be on Monday, September 8 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Ignatius of Loyola Catholic Church at 4103 Prices Distillery Road in Ijamsville. A private inurnment will take place at a later date.
