Gordon Lee Polley, Sr. passed away at home on May 19, 2026, at the age of 75 after a long illness. Gordon was surrounded by his loving family as he passed into everlasting life, where he was met by many family members and friends. Also waiting for their favorite guy at the Rainbow Bridge were many dogs and cats, no doubt leading the pack was Peter, his buddy of 14 years.
Gordon is survived by his wife of 35 years, Carolee, and his son Carter. He is also survived by a son and daughter from a previous marriage. He was predeceased by his Mother and Father, as well as brother Leland and sister Rose. He missed them dearly, and is no doubt celebrating with them all.
Gordon was born on August 14, 1950 in Covington, KY. He graduated from Holmes High School in Covington and went on to join the US Army. After his discharge from the Army at Ft. Bliss, Texas, he joined the El Paso Police Department. Gordon retired from EPPD after 26 years of service, where he was proudly a cop’s cop for his entire career, including working in Traffic, as a K-9 handler with his partner Boy, as a motorcycle officer, and as a Special Traffic Investigator. After 9-11 Gordon joined the Department of Army Federal Police. That job took him and his family to Maryland, where he retired in 2019.
Everyone who loved Gordon will remember his beautiful smile, his dedication to his family, his willingness to help a friend, and his love of a cold beer, a good joke, and cooking for his family and friends. He never complained, in fact his favorite saying was “I’m just happy to be here.”
A special thanks goes out to Frederick Health Hospice for their loving care of Gordon, especially his caregiver Sakeena and his nurse, Trish. Many nurses, nurse practitioners and physicians monitored his care over three years, for which we will always be grateful. Donations in Gordon’s memory can be made to Frederick Health Hospice, 1 Frederick Health Way, Frederick, MD 21701.
