October 25, 1926 — June 20, 2016

Mr. Guy Douglas Nestor 89 of Frederick, Maryland, formally of Ijamsville, Maryland.  Died Monday June 20, 2016 at Ballenger Creek Center after a battle with cancer.

He was the loving husband of Patsy Ann Hennessey Nestor.  They were married 61 years until his wife died on October 29, 2011.

Born October 25, 1926 in St. George, West Virginia, he was the eldest of 4 sons born to Guy O and Bellva Murphy Nestor.  Having been born and raised during the depression made him very frugal throughout his life.

His family relocated to Alexandria, Virginia in 1941 during WWII.  His future Father-in-law worked at the Torpedo Factory in Alexandria as a machinist making torpedoes for the war.  His Father also worked at the Torpedo Factory as a carpenter making the wood crates to deliver the torpedoes.

Guy enlisted in the Navy on December 21, 1943 for the war effort at age 17 with written consent from his parents.  He received numerous commendations. Also a commendation from the “Okinawa Campaign” in May of 1945, which seemed to be his most notable but never talked about.  He achieved the ranking of Quartermaster Second Class.  He was honorably discharged on October 25, 1947.

After enlistment he became an apprentice bricklayer for Bricklayers Union Local #1 in Washington, D.C.  After serving a 3 year apprenticeship he became a Journeyman bricklayer working on many notable buildings including the FBI, IBM, AEC and the Xerox Training Center.  He ended his career at the Harpers Ferry Job Corp Training Center as a bricklaying instructor.  He remained a union member for over 68 years.

Guy and Patsy eventually met and were married in 1950.  They started their family in Alexandria, Virginia with the birth of 2 sons, Michael then David.  They then moved to Rockville, Maryland where they had a 3rd son Mark.

Guy was able to buy 5 acres of land at $200 per acre in 1957 in Ijamsville, Maryland and built a 4 bedroom brick and stone house that for over 50 years was made a home.  He loved his Basset Hounds that he had.  He was an avid gardener and could build anything you needed.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Donnie Nestor and Edward Nestor.

Guy is survived by one brother, Austin Nestor, of Stow, Ohio, 3 sons Michael Douglas and companion Bernice Gambell of Frederick, Maryland, David Lynn Nestor and wife Lisa of Olney, Maryland, and Mark Edward Nestor and companion Tom Dooley of Denison, Texas.  8 Grandchildren, Rebecca Nestor, Laura Nestor, Matthew Nestor, Chastity Nestor, Danielle Nestor, Kimberly Nestor, Shawn Nestor, Stephanie Dooley and 12 Great-grandchildren.
