Helen Brown Lynch , 101, of Walkersville, Maryland, passed from this life peacefully on Thursday, July 2, 2026 at Heartfields Assisted Living in Frederick, Maryland.
Born on January 20, 1925, in Braxton County, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late David G. Brown and Florence Herold [a][b][c]Brown (later Arndt). She was the devoted wife of William P. Lynch, with whom she shared 57 years of partnership and support.
Helen was a graduate of Victory High School (class of 1943). She continued her education and earned her Associate’s Degree from West Virginia Business College.
She worked as a legal secretary while living in West Virginia. After relocating with her family to Maryland in 1957, she joined the Frederick County Extension Service, where she served for many years. [d]
She was a member of Glade Valley Homemakers, Walkersville Senior Citizens and St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Walkersville.
Helen built a remarkable life defined by devotion to her family. She was happiest when caring for those she loved and took immense pride in being a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
An active and energetic woman throughout her life, she enjoyed hiking, picnicking, playing games, puzzles, ping pong and wiffle ball in the backyard with her children and grandchildren. She was the chief babysitter of her grandchildren, hosting sleepovers and daytime adventures.
In her quieter moments, Helen found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved to garden with her husband Bill, growing both vegetables, house plants, perennials and annuals with a green thumb. She enjoyed sewing and ceramics.
Though her presence will be deeply missed, the love and cherished memories she created will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
She is survived by family who meant everything to her: Her daughters, Luree Becker and her husband Bill, Susan Lynch, her grandchildren Shelley Mezan, Alan Zimmerman, Will Becker, Alex Becker, Andrew Becker, their spouses, and nine great grandchildren.
The family would like to recognize and thank with deep appreciation the staff at Heartfields Assisted Living, especially her caregivers Carla Moreno and Lisa Reed.
In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her husband, William Paul Lynch, her sister Wanda McCarty, her son in law Dennis Just, and many members of her extended family.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm on Friday, July 10, 2026 at Stauffer Funeral Homes, 40 Fulton Avenue in Walkersville, Maryland, immediately followed by a celebration of Helen's life at 1:00 pm at the funeral home. Interment will be at Glade Cemetery.
