Listen to Obituary

Henry “Hank” Chase Jr, of Myersville, Maryland, passed away peacefully in his home on Saturday, April 11th. He was 75 years young. He fought a long hard battle with cancer and is now resting easily.

Born in Louisville, Kentucky, Hank is the son of the late Dr. Henry V Chase, and Anna Margaret “Peggy” Chase of Frederick, Maryland.

Hank is survived by his dear wife, Sara, and their three children, Cali (Nick Foreman), Hank, and Taylor. His two grandchildren, Vincent and Eloise, brought him much joy. The family finds comfort in knowing that Hank has now been reunited in heaven with his late daughter, Elle.

Hank is also survived by his two siblings, Anne and Thomas. The Chase family grew up in Frederick, Maryland. He attended Frederick High School, St. Francis Preparatory School in York, Pennsylvania, and then earned a bachelor’s degree in Anthropology from St. Mary’s College of Maryland, in St. Mary’s City, Maryland.

Hank spent many years in sales with McHenry Auto and Fitzgerald’s-a role perfectly suited to his independent spirit and natural gift for conversation. He could sell just about anything - from autoparts, fresh seafood, to produce. He loved being on the road, setting his own pace, and connecting with people from all walks of life. He had a way of making others feel seen and valued.

He found his greatest peace at the water, whether along the rivers of the Chesapeake Bay or on his cherished Hatteras Island. Hank embraced life on the shore-fishing, oyster harvesting, shrimping, clamming, boating, and beachcombing brought him much happiness. Just as meaningful to him were the lifelong friendships he formed along the water’s edge. Those who knew him can easily picture him in this setting, doing what he loved most.

Hank loved the life he lived in the country, with his wife, children, farm animals, golden retrievers, and antiques. He was a generous man and treated people and animals with kindness. He made people laugh, he told you his thoughts straight up, and he left an impression on everyone he came across.

In lieu of flowers, Hank would want you to subscribe to The Bay Journal, one of his favorite publications. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date. In the meantime, family and friends are invited to share memories, stories, and condolences with his family at the following email (sarachase420@gmail.com), and/or at StaufferFuneralHome.com.
