Herman Edward Swope

Herman Edward Swope, 77, of Sabillasville, Maryland, joined his loved ones in Heaven after a long, tough battle with Cancer, on Thursday, November 6, 2025 at his home with his wife by his side. 

Born on March 24, 1948, in Johnstown, PA, he was born to the late Viola Moore and raised by the late Herman Baumer Swope and Stella (Shroyer). In addition to his parents, Herman is preceded in death by brothers and sisters, Edward Swope, Carl Swope, Dorthy Shaffer, Ruby Williams, Clara Koontz, Pearl Rummel, Linda Lake, and Charles Swope. Herman is survived by his loving, devoted wife of sixty years, Mary Swope (Sines). Together, they raised 4 children, Matthew Swope (Angela), Sherri Swope, Eddie Swope (Madalena), and Nathan Swope (Lillian). He is survived by sister Judy Swope, 11 Grandchildren, 12 Great Grandchildren and two step-siblings, Darlene Templeton, and Frank Moore.

 A devoted husband and father, he will be remembered for his love of hunting, fishing, and love for old Western Movies. Herman grew up in Hooversville, Pennsylvania and attended Forbes High School in Boswell, Pa. An avid Hunter and Fisherman, he often shot deer during squirrel season. 

Herman strived to follow in the steps of his Lord and Savior. Herman was a member of the Smithsburg Church of God. His love for singing Gospel songs in church or with his children, will be remembered by everyone who knew him. He was a respected Chief Engineer and Maintenance Supervisor for many years where he made many lifelong friends.
