Hilda Spurrier Gordon, of Frederick, Maryland, passed peacefully on Wednesday, December 10, 2025.
Born on October 7, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Robert G. and Edith Croft Spurrier and the beloved wife of the late Garland Daniel Gordon, whom she married on October 29, 1955.
A graduate of Forest Park High School (1952) and the Maryland General Hospital School of Nursing in Baltimore (1955), Hilda moved to Frederick that same year and began a long and devoted nursing career at Frederick Memorial Hospital. She served faithfully for over three decades, retiring in August 1988.
Hilda was a committed member of the Frederick Church of the Brethren for 70 years, having joined in 1956. She and her husband were founding members of the Prospectors Sunday School Class, where she remained active since 1961. Over the years, she served in many ministries, including the Chancel Choir, the Deacon Board, the First Impressions Team, the Kitchen Ministry, the Disaster Response Team, and the Wednesday and Thursday night food preparation teams. She was also a past member of the Oak Park Church of the Brethren in Oakland, Maryland, and participated for 14 years in the Golden Rule Sunday School Class.
Hilda is survived by her children, Glenn Daniel Gordon and wife, Cathy, of Frederick and Cheryl Lynn Gordon, of Shepherdstown, WV; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by Gregory Daniel Gordon and wife, Kristi, of Frederick, Emily Gene Katongole and husband, Stanley, of Frederick, Ashley Lynn Nicholopoulos and husband, Jeremy, of Dover, Delaware, and Kristan Elizabeth Nonemaker of Nashville, Tennessee, and Jennifer Michelle Ratliff and husband, Garrett, of Smyrna, Tennessee. She has seven great-grandchildren, Graiden Daniel Gordon and Harper Grace Gordon both of Frederick, MD, Stellan Michael Katongole and Everly Gene Katongole of Frederick, MD, and Peyton Marie Ratliff, Daniel Garland Ratliff, and Addyson Grace Salvato of Smyrna, Tennessee.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Margaret Spurrier Wilke; and brother-in-law, Richard Fred Wilke, Sr.
Hilda will be remembered for her gentle strength, steadfast faith, and lifelong commitment to serving others. She leaves behind a legacy of compassion, dedication, and love.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, December 15, 2025 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike in Frederick. The family will also receive friends from 12:30 to 1 p.m. on Tuesday at the church prior to services.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, December 16th at the Frederick Church of the Brethren in Frederick with Rev. Paul Mundey and Rev. Lerry Fogle officiating. Burial will be held at Brownsville Heights Cemetery in Knoxville.
