Hilda Elizabeth Mahoney

Hilda Elizabeth Mahoney, 92, of Frederick, Maryland, and Fairfax, Va. passed from this life on Monday, June 12, 2023.  She was the beloved wife of the late Robert Paul Mahoney. 
 
Born on May 26, 1931, in Lewistown, MD, she was the daughter of the late Clarence H. and Ruth N. (Newton) Martz. 
 
Hilda grew up in Frederick, Md, then lived in California, Georgia and New York with her husband while he was in the Army. While living in New York, she worked with American Airlines.  They raised their daughters in College Park, Wheaton and Gaithersburg,  then moved to Macon, GA where Bob was transferred with employment.  Hilda volunteered at her church or at the schools, working on newsletters, delivering food for Gaithersburg HELP, and participated in many Bible studies.  She loved to travel - taking trips driving across the United States, and into Mexico, to the Smoky Mountains, and to Florida and the beaches  She loved her summer vacations with Karen's family at Hilton Head and spring break trips to Myrtle beach with her daughters and grandchildren.
 
She is survived by her three daughters, Karen Altmire (Dan), Stephanie Wilson (John), and Melissa Peterson (Tom).She is survived by eight grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. 
 
The family will receive friends from 10-11 AM on June 19, 2023 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 16420 S. Westland Dr., Gaithersburg, MD 20877 where a celebration of Hilda's life journey will take place at 11:00 AM.  Pastor Dave Sonnenberg will officiate.  Interment will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Frederick, MD.
