Ingrid Indira Persaud passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at her beloved home in Frederick, Maryland, surrounded by all her children.
Ingrid was born on February 2, 1955, in Guyana, where she attended St. Joseph High School, graduated from St. Rose’s High School, and was one of the pioneering women enrolled in the early days of the Guyana National Service. Beyond Guyana, she lived in Jamaica, the Bahamas, California, and Connecticut, graduating from Stamford Hospital School of Radiologic Technology there before settling in Maryland nearly 20 years ago.
Ingrid was the daughter of Indar and Rita Persaud (aka Basil and Ruby Kanhai) and is survived by her daughters, Nadira and Elizabeth; her sons, Kamran and Omar; her son-in-law Dave and granddaughter Diya; and her brothers Andrew and Brian.
A determined gardener, lover of Pilates, expert seamstress, champion of progressive causes, and passionate beginner pianist and swimmer, Ingrid built a long and meaningful career in radiology management, including decades at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City and GCM Suburban Imaging in Bethesda, Maryland. But it was the role of mother that made her most proud. Perpetually pursuing the lifelong dream of completing her own bachelor’s degree, she was endlessly tickled by having raised a physician, an engineer, an attorney, and a writer in her downtime.
Ingrid was a member of Saint Mark Presbyterian Church, where she enjoyed teaching Sunday School and talking philosophical shop in the book club. She will be remembered for her raucous laugh, sparkling curiosity, deep loyalty, and loving spirit. And those who were lucky enough to know her will forever miss the beauty and brilliance she brought to each new day, from helming feisty political chats in her boisterous kitchen to being a warm, safe harbor to any and all in need of a “Mommy.”
May we all be so effortlessly full of hope, grace, and joy.
