James Edgar Bartgis, IV

March 25, 1964 — December 18, 2025

Frederick

James “Jeb” Edgar Bartgis IV headed to heaven on December 18, 2025. Jeb went to meet his friend Rita who he missed dearly. Jeb was full of life and loved being the center of attention - whether he was playing a fierce rip on an air guitar or cheering on his favorite Flying Cows Basketball Team or the Frederick Keys Baseball Team. Jeb loved music of any kind - especially with guitar solos and was always the accompanist at Karaoke events. Jeb was famous for his wide grin and that sloppy Yosemite Sam mustache. He would always rush to open the door for a lady and ask all the men “How’s the weather?” Jeb walked the neighborhood around Wyngate with his stick - swinging away at every rock he could find. Jeb worked at McPhersons Moab Farm in his younger years - and grew to love his farming life - working with cattle and helping with the Red Angus showstring was one of his most favorite memories. He loved the outdoors working with Albert. Jeb got to return to outdoor work. Jeb enjoyed his job working at Black Ankle Vineyards, and they will miss him dearly. He took pride in being their man to set up firewood and move that furniture every Monday after a busy weekend. “Speedy’s” Church ladies from Marvin Chapel were truly the love of his life! He met with them several times a year to share his love and food!! He loved being snuck cookies and the $5 bill here and there. The Thrift Shop missed him - and he missed working there too!

Jeb traveled with his friends at Community Living - from Lancaster, PA, (particularly the Outback Toy Store - a man’s toy store!), Outer Banks, NC, to every Harley Shop around in a 200 mile radius. He collected chips from every Harley shop and a T-Shirt. Which he would proudly wear - and ask everyone “Do you know where that’s at - I have been there!

Jeb will be sorely missed by his friends at his house Danny, Richard and Ted, and staff Tracey and Bryan.

Jeb is survived by his half brothers Paul Simmons (Priscilla) and Marcus Simmons. He also had a half sister, Sheila. Jeb is predeceased by his father James Edgar Bartgis III and his mother Alma Kathleen Bartgis. He is survived by numerous cousins and aunts and uncles scattered across the area who hoped he would stay here a little longer!!

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, December 29, 2025 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick.

A celebration of Jeb's life will begin at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, December 30 from the funeral home chapel with visitation from 10-11 am.
