James “Shadow” Emory Boyer, Jr., of Frederick, crossed into heaven to be with his Lord and Saviour on June 4th, 2026 after a brief illness.
Shadow was born and raised in Frederick, Maryland. If you live in Frederick, chances are you know him or had a conversation with him at some point. He never met a stranger and loved talking to people wherever he went. His outgoing personality and gift for conversation made him a familiar and friendly face throughout the community. He will remain with us in spirit, as he always would say, “I’m like a bad cold, hard to get rid of”.
After high school, Shadow worked in drywall and painting, at Sears, and several apartment complexes in Frederick performing maintenance work, Willowtree Liquors, and most recently he worked for Great American Landscaping. He was known as a hardworking man, who took pride in everything he did, and was always on the move.
Shadow enjoyed life to the fullest. He loved spending time with his family and his friends. During his life, he was an avid duck pin bowler-dating back to the Health Center Days, played softball where he was known as a great pitcher, enjoyed shooting pool and excelled at playing cards. A passionate sports fan, he faithfully cheered on the New York Yankees, the Dallas Cowboys, and the Boston Celtics throughout his life.
A visitation will take place at Stauffer Funeral Home on Opossumtown Pike on Wednesday June 10th, at 10 am, with a service to follow at 11 am.
Please feel free to wear your favorite sports team jersey in honor of Shadow’s love of sports.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the local animal shelter as Shadow dearly loved animals, or to your favorite Veteran's charity.
At Shadows request, there will be no interment.
His wife, Lu Ann and children Jamie Howard (Rick) and Jason King, extend their heartfelt gratitude to Hospice for the compassionate care and support they provided during Shadow’s illness, and to the family and friends who visited prior to his passing.
