James Robert Coggins of Monrovia, Maryland passed peacefully surrounded by his wife, children, and grandchildren on June 15th, 2025, making his journey to heaven on Father’s Day.
Born in Washington D.C. in 1948, James (Jim) is preceded in death by his parents Neil and Doris Coggins of Silver Spring, Maryland.
In 1968 he was drafted and proudly served in the United States Army. Following his service, Jim worked as a union electrician, most notably for Singleton Electric, where he made lifelong friends and golf buddies.
His fondest memories were spending Sundays with his parents, grandparents and an army of cousins, loving his wife, and teeing off with Vic and the Singleton crew.
He married his high school sweetheart in May of 1970. He enjoyed 55 years of marriage with his beloved wife.
Jim lived life to the fullest. He loved skiing, golfing, hiking, biking, traveling, beaching, and above all- he adored spending time with his amazing grandchildren.
Jim is survived by his wife Leslie, three children: Sean Coggins (Angie), Kelly Winovich (Joe), Deborah Wowk (Justin), and eleven grandchildren: Allyson, Logan, Joey, Patrick, Jakob, Shannon, Julia, Jackson, Cooper, Cruz, and Piper.
Visitation will be held on Friday, June 27, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Stauffer Funeral Home in Mount Airy, Maryland. A service to celebrate Jim’s life will begin at 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Silver Spring.
In lieu of flowers, memorable contributions can be made to BridgingLife (Carroll Hospice) or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, causes close to Jim, Leslie and family.
