James Willie Davidson, known as Billy, beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, great-uncle, friend, and son of God died peacefully at his home on Saturday, July 11, 2026 in Frederick, Maryland.
He was born on October 21, 1947 in Kingsport, Tennessee to Jasper and Katherine Davidson. He moved to Maryland and graduated from Montgomery Blair High School in Silver Spring in 1966. He worked for McArdle Printing Company for one year before he was drafted into military service. He proudly served his country in the heart of Vietnam for one year, before returning to Maryland, where he quickly met and married his wife, Sandra Davidson (Smith), to whom he remained lovingly devoted every day for 55 years.
Mr. Davidson was known as a kind and gentle soul who loved his family. He had two children, James Patrick Davidson, and Victoria Rosa Davidson. He was very involved in his children’s lives, taking them to many school and extra-curricular activities including travel soccer games, softball games, and dance recitals. He spent easy-going holidays and weekends with his sisters, Ethel Wimberly and Patricia Davidson Veilleux and her husband, Pierre Veilleux, and their families, as well as friends and additional extended family, including in-laws of the Smith family. He was kind and welcoming to all. He was active in his social circle, playing poker games and fishing on the Chesapeake Bay. He worked at McArdle Printing Company for 45 years and celebrated his retirement as a production manager. He loved cheering for the Washington Redskins and enjoyed rivalries with his sister, Ethel, and others, who cheered for the Dallas Cowboys. He cared for his mother, Katherine, and his sister, Ethel, in their final days. In later years, he continued his paternal role with two family dogs, Luke, and Jake.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jasper and Katherine Davidson; his sister, Ethel Wimberly; his children, James Patrick Davidson and Victoria Rosa Davidson. He is survived by his loving wife, Sandra Davidson; his sisters, Patricia Davidson Veilleux of Maryland and Shelia Deckard of Missouri; his nieces and nephews, Katherine A. Fernandez and Susan Hashmall of South Carolina, Thomas William Hurst of Maryland, Wayne Edward Hurst of Delaware; and many great-nieces and great-nephews; as well as many members of his in-laws, including Pierre Veilleux and the Smith and Gavin families.
A celebration of James's life journey will take place at 1 p.m.on Monday, July 20, 2026, at Stauffer Funeral Homes, 1621 Opossumtown Pike in Frederick. Burial with military honors will be held at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Frederick.
The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Monday at Stauffer Funeral Home in Frederick.
Memorial donations may be made to the VFW.
