James Richard Hughes, 67, of Thurmont, passed from this life on Wednesday, September 27, 2023 at his home.  Born on March 21, 1956, in Loudoun, VA, he was the son of the late Harry Adam Hughes and Rosemary Catherine (Horn) Hughes.

He served as Private E-2 in the U.S. Army, discharged in June 1978.

He was employed by McGregor Printing, and R.R. Donnelly before retiring. He then worked part-time for Frederick County Public Schools as a crossing guard and at Weis Markets in Thurmont, MD.

He enjoyed playing cards with his father and watching old movies, and spending time with family and friends.

He was a member of Thurmont AMVETS Post 7 and Woodsboro American Legion Post 282. 

He is survived by his daughters: Jodi Barb and husband Ron, Jr. and Mandi Hughes; 3 grandchildren: Sunshine Judd and husband Nick, Kelynne Stoltzfus and Kasey Barb; a great-grandson, Mason Judd; siblings: Peggy Soper, RoseMary Morris and husband Donald, Cathy Kemper and husband Donnie, David Hughes and wife Beth.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Jamie Stoltzfus.

 

A Celebration of Life will be held October 21, 2023 from 1:00-3:00 pm at the Woodsboro American Legion Post 282, 101 W. Elizabeth St., Woodsboro, MD.

Memorial donations may be made to Wounded Warrior and American Diabetes Association.
