James William Quick, age 79, of Mt. Airy, Maryland, passed away on April 30, 2026 at Frederick Memorial Hospital.

He was born on May 19, 1946 in Beloit, WI to Harry James Quick and Mildred (Swanson) Quick. He grew up in Beloit and went on to attend University of Wisconsin, Madison, earning a bachelor’s degree in business. Following graduation, Jim joined and proudly served in the United States Army.

Jim worked for the Department of Navy for over 35 years and was known for his incredible work ethic. Beyond his career, he was an avid outdoorsman with a strong love of fly fishing.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Jean (McDonald) Quick, his children Amy Sterenberg (James), Stephen Quick (Michelle), and Karen Sartori (Billy). Jim has 8 grandchildren, Will, Logan and Gavin Sterenberg, Colin and Lilly Quick, and Grayson, Owen, and Makenna Sartori. He is also survived by his brother David Quick (Paulette). He was preceded in death by his parents Harry and Mildred Quick and his brother Tom Quick.

Jim will be remembered for his humor, kindness, strength and generosity. He had a love of music and was a gifted saxophone and clarinet player. He touched the lives of many and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

A mass of Christian Burial will be held, Tuesday, May 5, 2026. The family will receive family and friends from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at St. Michael Catholic Church at Poplar Springs, 1125 St. Michael's Road in Mount Airy, Maryland. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 am. Father Paul Sparklin will officiate. Interment will be at St. Michael's Catholic Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the National Kidney Foundation, in his memory.
