Janet Ellen Rohrer

Janet Ellen Rohrer, age 78, passed from this life into God's hands on Thursday, March 19, 2026 after a brief illness. Janet was born March 17, 1948 in Boonsboro, MD.

She was the daughter of the late D. Arthur and Katherine (Bowers) Rohrer. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Joan Elizabeth Rohrer, in July 2025.

Following her graduation from Boonsboro High School in 1966, Janet obtained a Bachelor's degree from Towson State College (now University) and a Master's from Shippensburg University in Elementary Education.

She spent 40 of her 41 professional career years as 4th and 5th grade teacher at Boonsboro Elementary School and one year at Pleasant Valley Elementary School.

While growing up on the family farm, she was an active 4-H member, and as an adult, served as a Club Leader. Over the years she received many blue and champion ribbons for food preservation, jams, pies and other baked goods-entries in the Hagerstown Fair and later, the Ag Expo. She also chaired the food preservation division for several years.

A lifelong member of Salem United Methodist Church in Keedysville, she sang in the choir, taught Sunday School and served as treasurer.

During her retirement, Janet spent many hours crocheting, creating jams, pies and chocolate candies, including buckeyes, which she sold at farmers markets with her brother and at the Shepherdstown Holiday Marketplace with her sisters.

A devoted sister and aunt, she is survived by her sister, Judith Rohrer Williamson (Arthur) and brother, Daniel Rohrer, all of Boonsboro; and her niece, Kristin Williamson Bucklen (Matthew), and great-niece and nephew, Kali and Cameron Bucklen, all of Glen Mills, PA.

The family will receive friends for visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 24, 2026. The funeral home will be open at 9 a.m. followed by the funeral service at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 25th at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro. Interment will be at the Fairview Cemetery in Keedysville.
