Joan Elizabeth Rohrer, age 79, passed unexpectedly from this life into God's loving care on Thursday, July 24, 2025 at her home in Hagerstown.
Born March 16, 1946, she was the daughter of the late D. Arthur and Katherine (Bowers) Rohrer.
While growing up on the family farm in Boonsboro, she was an active 4-H member. She graduated from Boonsboro High School in 1964, where she played flute in the band. Joan studied at Hagerstown Junior College (now Hagerstown Community College) and obtained a Bachelor's degree from Shepherd College (now University) and a Master's from West Virginia University in Home Economics (now Family and Consumer Science).

Passionate about practical life skills - nutrition, sewing, child development and more - she inspired many students. Upon her retirement from Boonsboro, the Family and Consumer Science program where she had increased student enrollment was eliminated.
In her retirement, Joan enjoyed sewing, baking and crocheting. She was well known for her peanut brittle, tea breads, cookies, cheese spread, scrubbies and hand towels. While in high school she was named champion apple pie baker at the Winchester Apple Blossom Festival. She was known for her kind heart and bright smile, she made lasting connections wherever she went.
A devoted sister and aunt, she is survived by her sisters, Judith Rohrer Williamson (Arthur), Janet E. Rohrer; and brother, Daniel A. Rohrer, all of Boonsboro; her niece, Kristin Williamson Bucklen (Matthew); and her great-niece and nephew, Kali E. and Cameron W. Bucklen, all of Glen Mills, PA.
