John Russell Giles, III, lovingly known as J.R., passed away on September 24, 2023, at his home in Frederick, Maryland. He was born on February 10, 1980, in Frederick, and his absence leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew him.

J.R. lived a life filled with diverse experiences and meaningful connections. He pursued various career opportunities throughout his life, working at establishments such as Planet Fitness, Holiday Inn, The Arc of Frederick County, Ask Me Project, and his final position with Papa Johns Pizza. His dedication and commitment were evident in every role he undertook.

Education played an essential part in J.R.'s life. He attended Frederick County Public School and later at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC. 

Those who knew J.R. will always remember his unwavering love for his family. Holidays and birthdays held a special place in his heart as he showered his loved ones with unconditional affection. One could always expect numerous cards and a thoughtful gift from him on these occasions. His presence made every celebration more vibrant and joyful.

J.R.'s passions extended far beyond his work and family. He had an undeniable talent for dance and singing that mesmerized anyone fortunate enough to witness it. He took immense pleasure in entertaining others through his performances. His favorite artists included legends like Michael Jackson, Lionel Ritchie, and Joe – J.R.'s devotion to their music was evident as he knew every song they ever produced. Though he may be gone physically, the memories he created through these artistic expressions will linger forever.

The grief surrounding J.R.'s departure is shared by both deceased family members and surviving loved ones alike. J.R. reunites with his paternal grandfather, John Russell Giles Sr., along with his maternal grandparents, Pearl Elizabeth Diggs and William Robert Diggs. He joins his great grandparents Albert Charles Dorsey, Josephine Hall Dorsey, Maggie Diggs, Luther Diggs, Nellie Butler, and Ambrose Morris in eternal rest. Additionally, he is mourned by many aunts, uncles, and cousins who were dear to him.

J.R. leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories for his surviving family members. His parents, John R. Giles Jr. and Theresa K. Diggs-Williams, bear the weight of this loss with heavy hearts. Grandmother Maybelle Giles-Holland mourns the departure of her beloved grandson.

His sisters, Kayla Giles and Kaitlin Giles, and brothers Jamal Giles and Jordan Giles will always hold J.R.'s memory close to their hearts. Nieces Valentina Diggs and Avani Diggs were fortunate to experience J.R.'s love and affection in their lives.

Aunt Marie Giles (Monte) shared a special bond with J.R., treasuring memories that they created together. The loss of J.R. is further grieved by uncles Earl Diggs, Leonard Diggs, Lawrence (Larry) Giles, Eugene Giles, Samuel Johnson, Herman (Hank) Giles; aunts Shirley Foreman, Betty McIntyre, Irene Camara (Kassick), Lorraine Jackson, Bernice Giles, Sharon Giles Simmons (Harold), Henrietta Moten, Gussy Morris Dorothy Johnson Jackie Morris Nellie King Sarah Gilbert Geraldine Hill; god sisters Alexis Barber Stacey Farmer (Terell); mentor Dennis Waters; Pastor Chris Jackson; Brittney Baugher; Femi Jolumo; his girlfriend Stacy; and his very special cousin Marvin Diggs alongside countless other relatives and friends.

A visitation service will be held on October 7, 2023 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, MD 21702 from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM. This will be followed by a Celebration of Life service at the funeral home at 3:00pm.

J.R.'s legacy will live on through the memories shared and the lives he touched. His kindness, love, and dedication will forever be etched in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him. As we gather to remember him, let us find solace in the joy he brought, and may we carry his spirit of love and celebration with us always.
