Woody (John Greenwood) Huffman, Jr. of Frederick passed away peacefully in his home Friday morning, May 16, 2025. He was the son of Evelyn Pauline Huffman and John Greenwood Huffman, Sr. He is survived by his loving partner, Barbara Brooks; his son, Justin Huffman (Michelle); daughter, Jodi Caudell (Kevin), and daughter, Danielle Weinberg; grandchildren, Jamison Huffman, Emily Hildebrand (Tyler), and Abby Caudell; and great-granddaughter, Amelia Hildebrand.
A second-generation hairdresser, Woody started cutting hair at the age of 17 in 1961 at his mother’s Woodsboro Beauty Shop. He opened his own shop “Woody’s Hairstylists” in 1970, running “the biggest clip joint in town” until he retired as a hair stylist and business owner in 2007. Around 2015, he un-retired as business owner and started “Les Salon” in his previous Woody’s Salon building.
Woody enjoyed fishing and hanging out at his trailer on the Potomac River near Harpers Ferry. He was proud of his service in the U.S. Army Reserves, and a longtime member of the VFW, American Legion, and Elks club. Woody enjoyed golf, was well known for hitting tremendous tee shots, shot his age or less several times, and in June 2016 scored a 289-yard hole-in-one at par 4 hole #15 at the VFW Country Club in Frederick. He never passed up an opportunity to dress up for Halloween. Late in life, he enjoyed the company of many stray cats.
