John Wesley Payne, Jr., 66, of Monrovia, passed away on July 6, 2025, at his home.
Born on October 7, 1958, in Washington D.C., he was the son of Joan Elizabeth (Gass) Payne and the late John Wesley Payne, Sr. John was the husband of Roma Ellen Payne, his wife of 36 years.
John was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, a dedicated employee of W.E. Bowers, and a committed member of the Local Steamfitters Union 602 for over 40 years. He was a devoted, loving, and loyal husband, father, son, brother, and friend—always putting others before himself.
Whether it was mowing the lawn at his children’s school before coaching their team after a long, demanding workday, or driving through the night to help someone stay warm in the winter or cool in the summer, John showed up—without question, without hesitation. His presence was steady, dependable, and deeply selfless.
John found joy in the simple things that brought people together. He loved spending time with his family and friends, relaxing at the beach, and heading out on deep-sea fishing trips. John was a lifelong classic car enthusiast who took pride in his cars and the community of fellow car lovers around him.
He will be remembered for his unwavering kindness, quiet generosity, and infectious zest for life. His legacy lives on in the memories of those who knew and loved him, and in the countless lives he touched with his heart, hands, and enduring spirit.
Surviving in addition to his wife are his children, Andrew Payne (Jessica), Zachary Payne (Kirsten), Kelly Daniel, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is additionally survived by his siblings, James (Carol) Payne, Jenifer (Wayne) Pilkerton, and Judith Hinds.
