John Carlo Martin

Mr. John Carlo Martin died on Monday, February 19, 2007, at Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was a resident of The Meadows at Homewood at Crumland Farms in Frederick.

Born in West Hoboken, N.J., on April 21, 1914, and raised in Amityville, N.Y., he was the son of the late Santina Pollini Martin and Humbert O. Martin Sr., graduated from Amityville High School in 1932 and attended business college in New York City.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army from April 1942 to October 1945 as an airplane and engine mechanic in the 410th Bomb Squadron of the 94th Bomb Group of the Air Offensive Europe. He was stationed in England and Scotland for two years, attained rank of Master Sergeant and received the Distinguished Unit Badge, European Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal.

He worked for Fairchild Engine Division beginning in 1940 (later Fairchild-Hiller and Fairchild Industries) on Long Island and in Germantown beginning in 1965. He began as an accounting clerk and retired in 1979 from the position of supervisor of general accounting.

He married Eileen Mary Conzen on July 3, 1948, who predeceased him in 1973.

He resided in Germantown from 1965 to 1991, when he moved to Frederick.

He is survived by two children, daughter Mary and husband Robert Baney of Germantown and son Michael of Ijamsville; three grandchildren, Amy Martin of Ijamsville and Matthew and John Baney of Germantown; and a sister, Louise Brockhoff of Amityville, N.Y.

He was predeceased by a sister, Albina Martin, and a brother, Humbert O. Martin Jr.

The family invites friends to a memorial service to celebrate his life at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 3, at Slayman Chapel at Homewood at Crumland Farms, 7407 Willow Road, Frederick.

He was laid to rest with his wife on Friday, February 23, at the Long Island National Cemetery in Lindenhurst, N.Y., with military honors.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the American Heart Association or to Homewood at Crumland Farms.
