Jose Alfonso Mata

Jose Alfonso Mata of Frederick, MD passed away in peace on Thursday, November 30, 2023, at home at the age of 88 after a long battle with lung cancer. He was born to Tomas and Cecilia Mata on April 3, 1935, in San Luis Potosi, Mexico. He was married for 58 yrs. to his high school sweetheart, Reyna A .Mata and moved to Mexico City where he worked as an accountant before emigrating to Washington DC in the early 60s. He then entered the restaurant industry where he worked as a waiter. He was a hardworking man that wouldn't sit still. A skillful handy man that preferred repairing something over buying something new. He loved music, dancing, and good food. He was a people person that enjoyed being surrounded by friends and family. Preceded in death by his parents Tomas & Cecilia, his beloved wife, Reyna A. Mata, and loving daughter Cristina Mata Sanchez. 
  
He is survived by his daughter Nancy Zetino, son-in-law David and their children; Diego and Cristian Zetino. His son Gabriel Mata, daughter-in-law Erica & their children; Kaelyn, Reese, Braeden, Addison, and Isabela Mata. His grandson Luis Gomez-Sanchez. His sister Consuelo Mata Pascasio & her children Eduardo Pascasio (dcd), Maribel Price and Jaime Pascasio. 
 
A Mass of Christian burial will take place at 12 pm on Thursday, December 14, 2023, at St. Catherine Laboure Catholic Church, 11801 Claridge Rd., Wheaton, MD 20902 . Father Francisco Aguirre will be the celebrant. Interment will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Silver Spring, MD.
