Joseph Richard Clemente, 91, peacefully passed from this life on Saturday, November 4, 2023 at his home in Mount Airy, Maryland. Born on February 11, 1932, in Brooklyn, New York, he was the son of Emmanuel Joseph Clemente and Jean Hallamore Clemente. As a young boy, his family moved to Norfolk, Virginia where he attended Fork Union Military Academy and William and Mary College. As a young man, he enlisted in the Marine Corp and was on active duty for 2 years. Then, he was employed by IBM for his entire career, working as a customer engineer until retirement. He was happily married to Marian Hearn Mitchell Clemente for many years, until her death. Together, they operated a small riding academy at their farm in Howard County. After Marian's death, he moved to Mount Airy with his step-daughter and husband to be closer to family. He became an active member of the LCPL Deane Detachment of the Marine Corp League serving various leadership positions. He was a lifelong learner receiving his master's and doctorate's degree in philosophy after retirement. Joe was an avid reader, enjoyed woodworking, and collecting firearms.
He is survived by his step-daughter Carol Mitchell Phillips and husband, Bob, step-son, Allen Hearn Mitchell and wife, Denise, many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and Clemente cousins.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Christ Episcopal Church, 6800 Oakland Mills Road, Columbia, Maryland 21045 on Saturday, February 10, 2024 at 11:00am.
